5 Things Your Dog Can Get Away With That You Can’t

Some think that choosing the best dog names is the hardest part of owning a pooch, but the reality is much different. Keeping a straight face when you need to tell your pup off for misbehaving or barking at the postman, training your pooch to be obedient and well-behaved in public, and so much more besides, make this human-canine relationship a lot more complex than you might first think.

Dogs are cute, but boy don’t they know it! Their little-tilted head, floppy eared and puppy dog eye routine is enough to win us over in a heartbeat when they’ve chewed up your new shoes or smashed your favourite vase – and we always let them get away with it. Because who can be mad at that adorable little furry face?

We’ve put together five of the most common acts of mischief that your dog will get up to on a regular basis that they will undoubtedly get away with, time and time again!

  1. Making a mess at every meal, because they can.
If your pooch likes to be with you at all times, but their dinner bowl is in the other room, don’t worry. They’ll be sure to bring in their biscuits, two at a time and trail crumbs throughout the house for you.
  2. Putting their feet on the furniture, because they can.
Whether you’ve got a brand new sofa, white sheets on the bed or have freshly washed the fluffy rug you love so much, your pooch will know about it and will be planning their first excitable – and often dribbling with malting fur – roll around on all that is clean!
  3. Never tidying up after themselves.
If you think working the 9-5 is a long shift, try being your dog, sat at home all by themselves with only a handful of toys to play with. The best part is that they will chew them up and leave them all over the house before finding their way into a cupboard and having a good old rummage!
  4. Not being as hygienic as they should be - aka marking their territory.
Dogs are usually pretty easily toilet trained and will let you know when they need to go. That being said, they’re not always averse to waiting if you’ve nipped to the shop and it’s taking a little longer than planned. Oopsie!
  5. Talking back when they know they're naughty!
If your doggy loves a good chinwag – a ruff ruff here and a deep growl there – they will never love it more than when you’re asking them to be quiet because it’s 6 am. Did you not realise that someone three streets away was getting up for work?

These traits might seem familiar, and that’s because dogs have a tendency to be naughty, but we will always love them regardless. Their cute, furry face, lolling pink tongue and happy demeanour makes them far too lovable!
